About Chesapeake BaySavers
The Chesapeake Baysavers is an Annapolis-based environmental nonprofit with a mission to restore the health of the Chesapeake Bay through legislative efforts, community outreach, and hands-on, environmental education programs for our youth.
In order to accomplish our mission, Chesapeake BaySavers is made up of two separate entities that each play a vital role:
Chesapeake Baysavers Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to restore the health of the Chesapeake Bay through education, community outreach and hands-on environmental work.
Chesapeake Baysavers, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote the health of the Chesapeake Bay through legislative efforts, with a focus on legislation that affects oysters.
The cause of the Chesapeake BaySavers is rooted in a personal experience. After Evan Thalenberg‘s eldest daughter became pregnant with her first child she went to her physician who advised her that, although she was healthy, she should not swim in the Bay as it could jeopardize her pregnancy. It was from this discovery that Chesapeake BaySavers was born.
It’s simple, oysters clean the Chesapeake Bay. We want to put oysters back in the Bay to do what they do so well.
It is unacceptable to leave our children and grandchildren with a toxic pond in place of a vibrant and healthy Chesapeake Bay.
